Have you ever dreamed of living in a home that feels like a luxurious retreat whilst exuding comfort and charm? We have been lucky enough to take a peek inside this stunning residence that blends modern elegance with classic inspiration. Our host, Mark Wright shared their design journey in choosing tiles from Tile Giant and the unique elements that make their home truly special.
A Neutral Palette with Bold Accents
The overall aesthetic of the home is characterized by a calming yet cosy neutral colour palette. As Mark explained, "We wanted to keep it quite neutral. We always like neutral colours. It's safer and some people might say it’s too safe…we just wanted to keep it neutral”.
Curating a Unique Collection
One of the most striking features of the home is the carefully curated collection of decorative pieces. Mark shares how they chose these specific styles: "We built the house and rendered the house, and we didn't have a tile in mind as such for the outside. The landscaping obviously always comes last. And then I asked Tile Giant to send me a tile that would match the house and they sent me this one Stiled Brentwood White Matt 80x80cm 2CM and it was absolutely perfect, it couldn’t have matched any better”.
Outdoor Oasis
The outdoor space is an extension of the home's luxurious feel, where entertaining, relaxing and spending time at home are paramount. Mark describes their inspiration: "We literally love these outdoor slabs. We didn't think we would be able to find something. This, this, right” Mark and Michelle’s outdoor tiles came from Tile Giants Stiled collection, giving them peace of mind that the quality and longevity of this collection is second to none.
Home Inspiration
We asked Mark if he had drawn any inspiration from places that him and Michelle had travelled when designing the house and specifically in terms of the garden? “We drew inspiration with the steps down to the corner, the middle from the hotel that we used to go to when we first got together, In Dubai, it's called the One and Only on the palm, and it has steps leading up to the court; by the way that hotel is a lot more glamorous than this. But, you know, you can sort of take a little pinch of it. So I'll probably go with that. And then the inside, we love a hotel in London called the Corinthia.” The bathrooms are equally as impressive, with a focus on luxurious materials and a spa-like atmosphere, Mark added “So we've got the gold; and what you see in the bathroom with the gold tones and the creams and stuff like that, and the marble effect. That's why we chose those towels in the bathroom to sort of match up to the Corinthian tiles.
Quality time at home
We asked Mark what the biggest challenges were in this huge scale build he told us “I think it is tough decisions the whole way through. Like literally down to things you wouldn't even think about. Like the colour of the mastic, the colour of the grout. So every decision is tough, especially if you've got a mind like mine, which is like a perfectionist mind that just doesn't want to mess anything up”
Mark shared with us how he feels now the renovations are coming to an end… “I have this idea of building a house that if you if you're off work and you have a bit of downtime, you don't have to leave. And Michelle and I are away a lot, you know, we spend some time apart working, which is obviously slowed down a bit now because we planned for that to happen and enjoy being a home, But so to have a pool and a pitch and stuff like that, you know, we, we understand how incredibly lucky we are, we feel so privileged that we were able to have that just enables us to spend so much time at home and not have to leave.”
Conclusion
This stunning home is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and personal style. By combining neutral tones, curated collections, and inspiration from their travels, Mark & Michelle have created a truly unique and inviting space. As Mark says “ Thank you [Tile Giant] for being part of this house and the fact that we could just literally one-stop shop with Tile Giant and choose internal and external tiles for all over the house and garden it was a dream because you walk into one company and they literally did have everything we wanted, everything we said ‘right we what we want something like this and they had it, yeah. Tile giant. You're the one.”
